Virtual Museum
On the territory of Belarus, the Soviet repressions began immediately after the October Revolution in 1917 and continued almost until the fall of the Soviet regime. Mass repressions were carried out during the reign of Stalin (late 1920s - early 1950s). The peak of repression, called the Great Terror, came in 1937-38, when hundreds of thousands of people were arrested, unjustifiably convicted and executed on the affairs of the NKVD. In Belarus, the victims of repression were representatives of all sectors of society, starting with the cultural and political elites who were accused of bourgeois nationalism, and ending with repression against the peasants during the period of collectivization. However, in our country, the tribute to the victims of repression has not been paid tribute yet, the history of repression in the BSSR is not sufficiently covered in historiography, there is neither a national museum, nor a separate exhibition in Belarus that would comprehensively and objectively tell about the history of Soviet repression.
The main purpose of the Virtual Museum is to preserve the memory and disseminate information about the Soviet repression.
- First of all, our activity is aimed at video recording and preserving the memories of victims of repression, searching for and collecting material evidence of the criminal actions of the Soviet repressive machine;
- Support and development of the Virtual Museum website, placement of new "exhibits": processing the collected information and posting on the website, creating new interactive maps of Soviet repression sites, etc.
- The virtual museum prepares traveling exhibitions about Soviet repression from its funds and other available materials.
- The task of the museum is also to disseminate and report to the society the collected knowledge about the tragic events of our past through guided tours, lectures, parties, film screenings for young people.
